STOCK POWER WHEELS DERBY RULES:

1.      Any regular electric Power Wheels vehicle is allowed.  No 4-wheeler or tractor type vehicles allowed.  Only stock Power Wheels bumpers allowed.  NO CUSTOM BUMPERS.  The child’s legs must be inside the compartment.  The child must ride IN, not ride on, the vehicle.

2.      Children ages 3 to 10 years old may participate.  If enough vehicles register, there will be two heats: one for 3 to 6 year old children, and one for 7 to 10 year old children.

3.      Helmets MUST be worn.  A bicycle helmet is allowed.  A full face helmet is recommended.

4.      Seatbelts are recommended.

5.      NO PASSENGERS ALLOWED.

6.      You may only use a stock Power Wheels batteries or a lawn mower battery.

7.      Motors must remain stock.  No modifications to make the vehicle run faster than stock.

8.      All doors and tailgates should be taped or strapped shut.  No sharp edges.  You may use zip ties, duct tape, or any other flexible product for making them stay shut.

9.      Stock tires only.  Tires may be covered with duct tape to prevent them from cracking or breaking.  No screws in tires, no chains, etc.

10.   All Power Wheels must have a number so they can be recognized by the announcer in the tower.  You may use paint, stickers, or a small sign to do this.  Decorative changes may be made to the Power Wheels vehicle to make it look like a derby car, but there can be no reinforcement to the Power Wheels vehicle.  Changes and additions are DECORATIVE ONLY.  Decorating is encouraged, as there will be a crowd’s choice award.

11.   Do not add something to the Power Wheels vehicle that could cause the child to not be allowed in the derby.  Remember that THIS IS FOR KIDS.  You would have a disappointed child on your hands if they aren’t allowed to run.

12.   All Power Wheels vehicles will be checked in and then impounded until time for their event.

13.   One parent MUST accompany the child to the pit area.  One parent may be allowed on the track with the child during the event.

14.   Each heat will be given a time limit.

15.   If a child gets out of the Power Wheels vehicle during the event, that child is disqualified.

16.   If the Power Wheels vehicle has more than one speed, the lowest speed must be used.

PARENTS:  Please don’t forget that this is for fun. This is a great way to teach your child good sportsmanship.  Although we will have trophies this year, we want the kids to have fun and get used to being on a track so they can keep derbies alive when they grow up. After all, they are the future of this sport.
